Is Bast Stat total the only thing you look at on a Pokemon to determine viability? Typing, movepool, abilities, perhaps, I don't know, Mega-fucking-evolution?
Scyther has a garbage typing defensively, Flying is decent offensively but Scyther doesn't get powerful Flying moves to utilize it. Wing Attack and Aerial Ace get the most mileage out of Technician. If fucking Wing Attack is one of your best attacking options, that's when you know you've got a problem.
Scyther's only priority move doesn't get STAB and is special, making it worthless. The single advantage it has over Scizor is speed, but that is negated due to Scizor's incredible Bullet Punch.
Scizor has an A-tier defensive typing with only a single double-weakness that makes for easy Fire-bait switches. Technician + STAB Bullet Punch makes for a whopping 90 Power priority move off of a 130 base attack stat. Solid defenses + Roost make Scizor highly durable and can set-up on a variety of Pokemon. Superpower via gen VI move tutors enhances Scizor's coverage and lets it break through Steel types. Then there's a fucking +100 stat boost via Mega Evolution that turns Scizor into a serious tank.
Scyther and Scizor having equal potential. Using Scyther outside of in-game is a joke as long as Scizor exists.
