We knew S/M were coming since X/Y, however. Strange Souvenir and the guy who gave you it hinted to S/M. Thousand Arrows/Waves hinted strongly at two games, but we got them in another way. Perfect Zygarde predicted the games by its design alone, with the chest colors.
S/M being radically changed because of how badly the fans responded to Kalos is speculative, but I am pretty sure that holds ground seeing how they ditched major characters and left things not resolved. We still haven't seen AZ's Floette, which I assume is going to fall into the WiFi Event Giveaway category, sadly. All that just because of Game Freak listening to the wrong people.
