While other religions rise and fall as their teachings are either spread, rebuked, or lost, anyone at any time can choose to disbelieve. If everyone who knew of Bhuddism, or Christianity, or whatever suddenly died off, the practice would die as nobody would know what to do. If everyone who knew of atheism suddenly died off, the break would only last as long as it took for the next person to reject what was told to them.
