I don't want to pay just to trade pokémon or play Monster Hunters, especially because Nintendo is not known for being hack-proof

I buy nintendo handhelds for pokemon. That's really it, all the other games I play on them are just bonuses, I'd be good without them, but pokemon is what I really enjoy.

That said there are a lot of problems with this.
>paying 300$ for a console is way too much
>paying a fee to access online shit is unacceptable
>games will probably be more expensive too

If they don't drop the price and the subscription fee I guess I'll have to stop playing pokemon.

I already use Showdown for Pokémon battling almost 100% of the time. This is just going to raise that to 100%. I mainly get Pokémon games for the single player, and the single player has gotten gradually worse since the 3DS launch, so I might just skip the new games entirely and only play them when the Switch can get emulated or you can buy a used one for $50 and then hack the shit out of it.

Paid online is cancer.

They would have to add a whole lot more to the online interface and content than what we are getting this gen.
The thing is, right now it FEELS very free. I can't see myself paying for GTS+Wondertrade+random battles. Those features just feel like they count as going towards the price tag of the game itself.
