There are no "bosses" of Battle Tree. He, along with Red, were just invited to Battle Tree.
Though he did probably leave his job as Viridian Gym Leader. Even in HGSS, he was rarely in the Gym and didn't really care much about it. He's probably been replaced with Silver.

Same, if Sabrina left to become an actress I can see the Dojo becoming Saffron's Gym again.
I'm not complaing that she became one, but why her of all people, pre-BW2 I could see Misty being one, hell even Erika
