Hi. I joined this board around the time of the SuMo release and I've been contemplating making this post for some time. I'm not super savvy using this forum yet, I've merely lurked a but, so please excuse me if I seem n00b-ish, but I have to get this off of my chest. I know that a lot of people post and comment here and I need all the help I can get.
Yesterday, I blogged (I won't include a link because this is NOT meant to be self promotional; it comes from the heart) about how female characters marketed to kids are usually shown as a minority. They are also sexualized. See Salazzle as a typical example. Also, Primarina is obviously very feminine, but the gender ratio says otherwise. Why? O_o
I wrote about how presenting females as a minority is dangerous because it normalizes invisible women. Adults stop noticing that girls have gone missing. So do kids. Females are 51% of the population but we manage to make the illusion of a female minority real when it comes to power positions across America. At the top, women are stuck at 16%. :|||
