At most Gen 7 will end on 3DS

Gen 8 onwards will be on a new system. Maybe it's Switch. Maybe it's a less powerful, portable version of Switch. Maybe it's a 4DS

3DS has less than two years left, anon. By then Switch will likely undergo a price change due to the ARM parts of the system going down. X1 Tegras will be superseded and can be fabricated with cheaper tech and since it's not a unique chipset, this'll probably happen by 2018
