Alain devoting himself to continuous battles with top-class trainers that have megas, fighting Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, and doing the gauntlet. Pretty much all he did was intense training. Plus he was exclusively training Godzard until a bit before the League. Oh, and Alain had the greatest possible motivation.
