That's why I don't think the wings actually turn Steel. Otherwise type resistance would also change.

They do turn to metal, no their type resistances don't change because their wings only change for a second.

It's only the wing that changed, not the Pokemon. And Steel Wing's usually used as an attack, meaning it comes and goes just as fast. That's what makes OP's example so impressive.

The wings are part of the Pokemon. Even in Pokemon world, Steel-types made completely of Steel take damage from Electric-type moves. If they didn't, Skarmory would NEVER be damaged by Electric-type moves.

This isn't "clever" use of real world physics. It's shit.

Yeah, the Steel Wing wouldn't have mattered hadn't it also touch the ground with it. The majority (if not all) of the Thunderbolt goes to the Wing, which in term is cancelled out by the ground. Or did you forget that part?

Did you also forget that a Steel-type Metagross, very much touching the ground, was killed by a Pikachu just a little while ago? Pokemon moves damage. Regardless of whether you have Steel Wings touching the Ground or not.
By complete real world logic, a Thunderbolt wouldn't even reach Pelipper, because it would just be attracted towards the closet object.
