For example, during Gen 4 Japanese release people thought Heatran would be a shitmon and Porygon Z and Rampardos would be Ubers.

Hydreigon was one of the most prominent pseudos in gen 5's VGC.
It learns a bunch of stuff that makes no sense (Superpower, U-Turn, Earth Power).

It only became bad due to fairies, but you can tell that GF tried to make it better than Garchomp (and they did, at least during gen 5).

All that huge-ass movepool is useless with that speed stat. This is the type of stuff I'm referring with purposely crippling them.

Hydreigon has NEVER been on par with Garchomp and never will be short of a mega buffing that horrible speed number.

Almost nobody used Garchomp in VGC12 and 13. Cresselia and Latios made it nearly unviable. Hydreigon's better move pool gave it a reason to exist alongside Latios, while Garchomp lost nearly all of its purpose when Landorus therian was created.

Of course, Smogon singles is different. But GF balances for VGC, so their intention of making a better pseudo than Garchomp succeeded.

Hydreigon is not better than Garchomp by any measure of any stick in this World and that you actually believe he is makes you utterly delusional. They fullfill different roles indeed, but overall, in more general terms, Garchomp is a much better Pokemon. Garchomp is spashable, and most of all, has the most magical speed number in the whole game. Hydreigon would kill to even reach base 100.

Come back when Hydreigon still manages to be king of nearly every damn metagame he's allowed to be part of for 10 years.

Oh wait, Hydreigon didn't even last one generation before falling from the throne he never managed to climb in first place.

Priority was shit. It invalidated speed tiers, turned slow, bulky mons into lightning bruisers, and gave too many things the ability to blanket check offense.

The meta is better now. Speed matters, setup sweepers are relevant again, and you can win games now by playing to set up a wincon.

The gen 6 meta was shit. It was either matchup-based balance, stall everywhere, or priority wars.

Now you can actually build an offense team that relies on outplaying your opponent, making predictions, and working toward pulling off a sweep.

It's so fucking refreshing. Thank you, Tapus!

AV is a good choice, but if you're consistently under TR and are going first, AV might not be pulling a lot of weight. Life Orb and Choice Band should be considered. SD can be ran with a LO, at +2 Esca lands tons of OHKOs. CB is predictable but quite functional as you usually just slam Megahorn anyway.

I don't get it. What's your point?

Speed tiers have always been a central factor of the meta. I'm not sure how new to comp you are, but people have been putting Scarfs on fast mons since gen 4. Timid Scarfgar was a thing once.

All of the crazy priority that was introduced in gen 5 changed that.

I don't really get that since gen 5 didn't introduce much crazy priority. Sure, Prankster was a thing, but most users were mediocre, and Bisharp wasn't great until gen 6. Now, priority is pretty much dead. A lot of previously good priority users got slapped down into UU and aren't nearly as good in OU. The best is probably Mega Scizor but it's almost a liability when literally everyone carries HP Fire or Magnezone or Lele.

It's the only Tapu I like designwise (or rather, colorwise) and I'm really enjoying the benefits it offers. Breloom, Sableye, Suicune and Mega Charizard X have always been obnoxious to me in team building and Misty Terrain alone prevents status from the first 2 and neuters Suicune's recovery and one of Char X's STABs. The Dragon-weakening effect is actually pretty nice to have in addition to the main Safeguard effect.

Not really. BP is banned in UU so there's no good reason to force switches with the owl. And with Bisharp UU, you get a free SD when people switch it out to preserve it. It's a decent defogger though.

Guys.

Primarina's a one-trick pony, but it's a pretty decent trick. Decidueye's a jack-of-all-trades, despite not standing out at anything particularly. They BOTH have their place, and it's up to the trainer to build a team to support their choice. Decidueye's got a lot of weaknesses - COVER THEM. Primarina's got a great defensive type but hates physical attacks - MAKE BESTIES WITH A GOOD PHYSICAL WALL.

They're both good, this whole thread just has no idea how to bring out their full potential and just meme at each other non-stop instead.

I don't think you even understand what you're saying.

Centralizing is forcing things to adapt to it because its so fucking overpowered you die otherwise. That sums up Tapu Koko and Bulu.

Marowak does the opposite, it STABILIZES the meta. It gives everything a fucking chance to be useful knowing that as long it's around.

And it still does nothing to help with cancer like Lele.

Looking back its so obvious it would be dumb, too.
Pretty much the same stats as a strong Mega, same ridiculous typing, pretty much the same movepool, all the works.
Make it not a Mega, now it can hold items and doesn't use a Mega slot.
Then make it immune to priority AND make all of its friends immune to priority for 5 turns. And give it an additional STAB boost, to go with it's perfect coverage.

That one's more on lore than the actual viability of the type as a whole, Poison can be a nutritious part of a complete balanced bullshit typing. It's fantastic on defensive Pokemon and has some powerful STAB moves to fall back on, notice how "shit" like Amoonguss can make OU despite being a Poison-type with one base stat above 90. Hell, the best non-legend, non-Alolan-form, non-Battle Bond Greninja Pokemon of Gen VII is a Poison-type. Just wait for Game Freak to give us a Crobat with legendary BST and a good Ability, you'll see.

Ice is still fucked unless they make it Tough Claws Weavile, now with +60 or so BST in Attack and Speed. I find it hilarious how every good, offensive Ice-type got banned in Almost Any Ability 'mons last gen, Adaptability Ice is one hell of a drug.
