Honestly it would have been fine if they had just:

But no, can't have that. Better introduce a new feature to make raising Pokemon easier but make it a ridiculous grind to use and defeat the fucking purpose.

For some incomprehensible reason they wanted to get rid of selectable key items in SM. That's why the fishing mechanic was changed and the bike and dowsing machine were incorporated into the riding pokemon. You have to please understandu, a vs seeker would have interfered with a change literally no one asked for
