also, consider this; in basic spanish, objects have assigned genders. they're determined by -o (male) and -a (female). imagine calling a box (ella caja) a girl in english.
does that sound stupid? because it is. "lunala" is derived from the spanish word "luna", which is moon. "luna" is a feminine word. that doesn't make the moon a woman.
tl:dr it only makes sense to call Lunala a girl in spanish
