I can admit to some being less than pleasant than other, but let's face it.

If it weren't for these designs, I don't think the franchise would have lasted this long. First generation pokemon are just that, first generation pokemon. Meaning, the very first pokemon to ever exist, some scrapped to possibly being used later on. Give the designers some slack, they were helping create a franchise that was soon to be big. And they've actually done it, those fucking mad men.

You mean if Nidoqueen were to be released as the ONLY evolution, right, because at least the Nidorans are split by gender and are capable of evolving either to Nidoking (male) or Nidoqueen (female) instead of having only one line being able to evolve and only if the first form happens to be female.

Imagine having only one Nidoran and it only being able to evolve locked by gender and the other gender never being able to evolve at all.

of course, none of these would make good pokemon designs besides maybe the bear

its more about the atmosphere of the game. those designs remind me of the surrealism of SMT with the colorfulness and friendliness of pokemon designs

Is the title of this thread meant to imply that the standard of Pokémon designs has at all improved? Because that is patently not the case. If anything the bar has dropped much, much lower for what constitutes an "acceptable" design.
