I liked them. A couple did look wonky, but I like them more than the watered-down colors of the bland, almost perfectly stationary models (bar Archeops) we have now.

I always hated Gen V's pixel art work for some reason, especially the overworld character sprites. They always looked ugly to me.

Not half as cute or comfy as the Gen IV sprites, anyway.

It looked amazing at the time OP. It blew my mind on release. The spritework in general was amazing as well. Great on the details and not overly vibrant like Gen 4 but not washed out like 6 and 7.

Opposite for me. I thought gen 4's overworld sprites were fucking awful and the spritework for the Pokemon were hit and miss, just like every other gen.

sure as hell didn't the first time I tried it, they were obnoxiously over-active and also not really animated, they just manipulated a still image really to give the illusion of movement

3D beat the ever loving shit out of it in almost every way, there's no rose-tinting yourself out of it

just because it's animated doesn't mean it's instantly better. if anything, playing the same four second loop of animation just makes it look even more stiff.

I don't know Gen 5 only is fun if you play BW2. BW is weird because the trainer NPC animation aren't there but the pokemon have them. that always looked weird imo. BW2 added trainer animations too if I remember correctly.

I have to agree here, except for the comment on 6 and 7. I loved gen 5 because the pokemon felt really alive, and one of the things that prevents me from going back to previous titles is how dead and static everything feels. The pokemon are like cardboard cutouts.
