I don't mind the price. I just don't want to be online to transfer my pokemon. I'm 27 now and if there is one thing I learned is that in 10 or 15 years I will want to do that same things I do today.

I'm paranoid and distrust anything that might be inaccessible in the future. My plan is to have my pokemon live in their respective generation.

I might get bank in the future and transfer my pokemon to the latest games but right now I'm fine with storing my pokemon in their original generation.

Bank is neither a pure profit nor a pure loss for Nintendo.

I have no idea what the margin is, but I can near-guarantee that $5/year for:

* Enough servers to near-guarantee 100% uptime
* Development of software to pull/deposit pokemon from/to Gen 6, Gen 7, and Gen 1 games.
* The bandwidth (stop thinking in terms of storage space, it's the bandwidth that's the important part for price) to handle those millions of users depositing and withdrawing.

Means that they are nowhere NEAR making even 50% profit on that price.

How does the National Dex work? If I transfer a Bulbasaur to Sun and evolve it to Venusaur does it add Ivysaur's data or will I need to quit out and connect to bank before I get to the third form? I know how the Pokédex works in REGULAR situations but since Sun has no VISIBLE marker of having seen Ivysaur I am a little worried of losing the data.

Needed? No, the amount of data is very small. You literally can hold1 million of bank on a 1GB server, since the Bank savefile is literaly close to nothing. So let's say there's one billion of people buying banks passand backing it up.

Doing math Nintendo will be earning 5 billions of dollars for runninga server 24/7.
Let's say they run 100 servers and every one holds 10gb to make everything smooth and prevent server issues.

Real numbers should be at least 50 millions of dollars earned every year for all active bank accounts and servers cost (maintance, 24/7 energy supply) won't be more than 100k yearly.

They literallycould charge 5 cents every year and still makemore than 40 millions in profit.
