It took me until last year or the year before to fully sort out the types of Seel's line, Shellder's line, Psyduck's line, Staryu's line, and Slowpoke's line. They seemed superficially chosen to me and confusing.

I'm actually fine with gen 7. Psychic has always been associated with space, which fits Solgaleo, Lunala and Necrozma. Tapu Lele could have been Bug/Fairy thematically, but Psychic also fits. But there is no excuse for Mew not to be Normal type or Lugia not to be Water/Flying.

Shellder is water/ice both
Psyduck is water the both of them
I keep thinging Staryu is water and Starmie is water/psychic, but both of them are probably water/psychic
All Slowpokes are water/psychic

Now to actually look it up;
Staryu and Shellder both are actually mono-water.

I also thought Psychic was super effective on grass but that has an excuse and that is that there were a small amount of grass only pokemon, most were grass/poison
