Game Freak is the George Lucas of game development teams. They coast on the self-propelled success of their main brand name, make games with tons of flaws, shortcomings, glitches and oddities, making them clunky and outdated compared to compared to games from other developers, and people eat them up anyway.

That said, George Lucas absolutely hated and alienated original trilogy fans while Game Freak is sucking up to Gen I fans.
