Gameplay's nothing alike. All the gameplay depth comes from properly arranging your Yo-Kai before the battle. Within the battles, you're limited to healing, switching out and occasionally using super moves.

The shallowness is a problem because it's grindy as fuck. Whether Yo-Kai join you after a battle is random, and all the sidequests are fetch quests.

All it has over Pokemon is its graphics, which are probably the best on the 3DS. You don't need to play 1 to understand 2.

Sounds like i will be replaying OR or White 2 rather than grabbing "Fleshy Souls".

I don't know about that, especially as far as character models go. They aren't even close to being as good as pokemon's future-proofed ones.
