Second, they do need to be careful about how much affection they allow certain characters to show, particularly the boys on the cast. The kiss scene had to be censored because Japanese censors doesn't like letting kids see two people kiss on TV. There's that consideration too.
Ash showed a much gentler side towards her than he did in the past. Part of that is due to him being portrayed as a more mature person overall, but he shows a lot of gratitude towards her for continually getting him out of funks. And the kiss did bring a reaction out of him, though a lot of people missed it or pretend it didn't happen, but it did happen and it was confirmed by the director.
It's not like Amour was a super huge part of the show anyway. It was brought up from time to time, but the overwhelming majority of episodes didn't bring it up.
