As someone who followed the competitive scene, the first half of dp was as good if not better, but the second half (HGSS Platinum) was inferior. But both 3rd and 4th gen were very pleasant to play competitively.

I like the current OU meta right now. But when UU becomes a bit more stable that will probably be where the real fun is.

did you play Gen 4 at the time? Hypnosis in OU was pretty much exclusively used by glass cannon Gengar and Milotic. And by the way, Sleep Clause was active then, it is no more worse than Breloom with 100% accuracy

They should have kept it at 70 IMO
