>BW2 are the main games of Gen VI. Instead of being set in Unova, they are to BW as GSC was to RBY, being in an adjacent region with Unova postgame, but otherwise being very similar.
>This gen also consists almost entirely of Gen VI mons only before postgame, except for some Gen V pokemon that receive cross-gen evolutions.
>Hoenn remakes don't happen quite yet, because reasons. GF more than makes up for this by making remakes of Colosseum and Gale of Darkness with updated mechanics, more Shadow Pokemon and more postgame.
>XY is now Gen VII. Megas exist but they are handled better, and there are more Megas overall, with Megas only being given to Pokemon that have a full evolution line already and making many Pokemon viable. The only Pokemon from previous generations available before postgame are those with Mega Evolutions.
>Fitting with the pace of the early game, the main plot is focused entirely on discovering the secrets of Mega Evolution and then battling Team Flare. AZ is the final boss. The entire Gym challenge is part of the postgame.
>Pokemon Z is a third version, but it is a sequel to X and Y. Emma is given a larger role, investigating the remnants of Team Flare for Looker, and it deals with Zygarde. Some foreshadowing is added to XY's Looker Bureau.
>ORAS is released next. Both games follow a plt similar to Emerald, but with a twist. The games have different, intersecting plots. One game has Brendan taking on Team Aqua while the other has May taking on Team Magma, before they intersect near the end of the original Emerald plot. All content that was in Emerald but not ORAS returns. The Delta episode happens, but is rewritten.
>Sun and Moon. Only pokemon from previous gens available before postgame are the regional variants, which there are many more of. If one member of a line has an Alola form, such as A-Raichu, then the whole evolution line does.
