Ash walked a several paces through this new hallway, before taking another sharp turn right. This time, Pikachu couldn't turn in time, and ended up collapsing on his side.
The little rodent let out a squeak of pain, but quickly shrugged it off, getting back to his feet. Wincing, and rubbing the spot where he'd fallen, he looked up; Ash, barely a few steps into the hallway, had started to turn left. Gasping, Pikachu once again dropped to all fours and ran after his trainer, barely managing to catch up before he made the turn. Fortunately, Pikachu had expected this, and adjusted his body accordingly; he turned sharply, and headed in the same direction as his friend.
Unlike before, Ash gave no indication that he intended to turn; instead, he kept walking through the corridor, which, oddly enough, seemed longer than the others. On he walked; slowly but surely, as though he knew where he wanted to go.
What's he up to? Pikachu thought, slowing down a bit. I thought people were just supposed to wander around aimlessly in their sleep. Heck, knowing Ash, he'd have bumped into a wall by now. He chuckled a bit, before returning his mind to the present. But so far, he hasn't made a single misstep; he hasn't tripped, crashed, or fallen once. It's almost like he has some sort of guiding system or something. No, that can't be it. He's a human, and humans don't have that kind of OW!
Pikachu grunted in pain as he ran into something solid, bringing a screeching halt to his train of thought. Eyes squinted shut, he frantically rubbed the area around his nose, trying to ease the soreness he now felt. After a few seconds, he felt himself ready to open his eyes, and was thus able to see what he had run into.
Ash had suddenly stopped in his tracks, for whatever reason, and Pikachu, not noticing, had just kept on walking until he'd run smack-dab into one of the boy's legs.
Why did he stop?
