Some like to search and search until they catch them all, or at least obtain them, some enjoy battling others online or playing facilities, and others just like to beat the main game with their favorite/s and maybe play in the facility for a while. None is wrong, just find which is what you want and don't feel like you have to play in a specific way, or you'll come to hate the game.
Also, as a general protip, leave vp until you know what you like about Pokemon, if you even end up liking it that is. For your own good
