They don't have infinite amount of time. Each Generation is so different that they pretty much have to make it from scratch, and there are so many things to focus on. Shitting out a game almost every year makes it hard to add everything in a game in perfect way, especially for a team with as little people as GF. Remember all the good stuff BW2 had? That was because they already used a completed game and just refined and added a few new things, but it still took 2 years.
If you're willing to wait as long as series like Zelda or Final Fantasy takes between releases, you'll have all the features you like. But personally, I prefer having a new game sooner. Most of those things are ultimately small things most people don't care about, including myself, so I don't mind the changes and removals,

That's why gen 5 had a ton of gen 4 content that was inaccessible, right?

GF are lazy, they don't make each game from scratch

They haven't done that since gen 3 and they've increased their workforce by a large amount since then. Stop trying to justify their laziness.

Pokemon models? A few are updated, and they had to make roughly 100+ new models for Pokemon alone. A full 3D model takes a lot longer to make than a small sprite. The previous ones were fine, so there was no need to update them.

That list makes sense. Almost all items have the same effect in both Generation 4 and 5, so there's not much reason to change that.

Replace ORAS with Emerald and add HGSS and I'd agree.

Also, Game Freak is lazy and knows they can get away with it, which is why they haven't tried in years.

Does having Megas make SM feel the same as XY? Do you think something like Contests being a permanent feature in every game would make the games feel too samey for you, or every game having a Frontier?

The way to make newer games not feel like rehashes is to add a sizable amount of new content ON TOP of all the features you've accrued over the years. Game Freak thinks it's more important to get out games yearly and squeeze more money out of their fans than to make actually good games that take 3-4 years of development.

Because you're missing the point that every game that isn't a third version is flawed as fuck, all of the games that people love here were third version that were refined, HGSS, BW2, PTT, all of them were good because they were just adding content to an already existing region.

A. Make a game with everything everyone ever wanted in it?
B. Add in and take away certain features so that customers would want to buy more games?
Option B easily allows games to stay profitable for a longer amount of time despite newer games being on the same shelf.
