It's like how salandit/salazzle get their names from salamanders, but act more like lizards (live in dry areas with no fresh water, have claws [scratch], salazzle rears up on its hind legs and tail like a monitor). Same with the charmander line and salamence, and the doduo line who look like kiwis/ostriches, and VENUsaur who looks more like a rafflesia than a venus flytrap, and infernape who is clearly a monkey, etc.
The point I'm trying to make is that the names exist only to make shitty puns.
