Well, usually, they release a game every even year, and every other odd year.
This could just be a coincidence, but the pattern lines up

And it's fair, but until they actually say anything on the next games, we won't have anything to go on but patterns

What game would they even release tho? It's too soon for yet another remake, but it's also too soon for a "third" maingen game.
I think it's too much of a stretch to think from this pattern alone that we'll be getting some wholly new basis for a Pokemon game. Would be cool if we got something very different, like maybe a more story focused thing (or more open world even) with the same mainline game mechanics. Something that is then not a remake, but not an updated Sun/Moon either.

Of course, would be the dream game, some rumors about a Switch Pokemon game so heck, maybe it'd even go on that, they keep the more traditional games on the 3ds while the Switch gets this new direction game.

Yes, i know. But me bringing up my thinking sparked this discussion, and hopefully we might get a little closer to understanding how they actually operate

Anyways, as to your question about what the next game will be, i don't know, but this is what /vp/ thinks, and what they thought back in gen6
