I don't mind those things too much, but I find that often relatable protags and whatnot tend to be written poorly. I just like well written, complex characters in general and I found gen five to be fairly good in that aspect.

Oh. That does make more sense. Yeah, relatable antagonist tend to be written in a god awful way. N is my favorite character by far, but I'm not sure he can even be counted as an antagonist due to the way Nintendo wrote him.

Ghetsis died and his roleplayer decided to turn him into a cyborg that delivered fast food as a joke.
Gladion is called French fry and got married to N, that's where that one comes from.

A likeable antagonist thats well written is one who is dipressed. He knows he might be wrong, but he also belives the hero might be even more wrong. His doubts will push him forward.
