I'm not trying to antagonize you Anon but I fear you're falling into the "muh patterns" mentality. For sure, some Megas take traits from pre-evos like you said (Tyranitar gains a Pupitar-like armour, Gengar get a more Haunter-shaped body) but this is by no means a "design philosophy". It's not a rule. I think we're at the point where we have to admit that some Megas just didn't have as much time put into them as others.
