Gen 1 started everything, a bit of pandering doesn't hurt at all.
The plot is as linear as the other. It's doesn't pretend not to be. B&W were a bit more elaborated, but it's just a matter of enphasis that's all

They deserve to be the most selling ones. They regained the attention of a lot of old fans lost on the track.

This is necessary because they introduced the pentagon. Same reason that ORAS has a ton of legendaries shoehorned in.

There are more Gen 1 Legendaries catchable in XY than Gen 6 Legendaries.

Let's not forget they literally just remade Viridian Forest instead of designing a new layout.

In hindsight, XY themselves weren't so bad. However, the trend that they'e created has indeed killed the series. S&M were supposed to be a return to the old days of quality games. Yet, here we are, S&M are now widely considered as being up there with ORAS in hate. At this point, I'm given up hope. Gen 4 and 5 will remain the golden years forever
