Someone did this successfully, but I am not sure how long you can leave it off before the Pokémon fucks off for good.

I don't think it's reliable to say you can just reset it and the Shiny will still be there, until we know exactly how it works

So Magikarping is breeding done faster. Going for a Pseudo like Garchomp would take forever to go through because they take a fuck ton of steps to hatch just one egg (10,240 steps) whereas Magikarp is the quickest egg to hatch (1280)

I hatch Magikarp until I find a shiny and take note of where the shiny landed. If I collect 60 and a shiny shows up at #45, I swap into something like a Gible, collect 45, and bam, I've got a shiny Gible

Pretty sure you could. As long as you've got your foreign Ditto. It'll go by slower with the chances being 1/1365 instead of 1/455, but give it a shot

If I could make a suggestion, I'd like to say that when you do find your shiny Karp and SR, put the Magikarp back in until one before the Shiny egg

So if you find a shiny 22 eggs in, start over and pick up 21 eggs. Take the Karp out before 22. Hatch am all and save in front of the lady. That way, if you put in a Pokémon and not 100% on the end result, SR and swap in another opening for the one egg shiny

When this was discovered, it was pre-bank. I was hatching shinies left and right. Average of 100 eggs. Most was like 400. Ever since bank dropped, I've had some bad shiny luck. 1100 here, 1300 there. Latest one was 2250. But that's just my shiny luck. Everyone has different luck. You might get yours under 100 or over 1000. Who knows. Find out and tell us how it goes

Taking the Ditto out will reset your shiny seed. Never take out the Ditto until after you hatch your shiny

If you gotta breed for a handful of pentaperfect Pokémon to swap in, do it after the shiny. Never in the middle of a seed

Basically, you use a Magikarp as a dummy parent since it's eggs hath the fastest out of any other Pokémon. Hatch eggs and keep track. You do it till you get a shiny Magikarp. The moment that happens, you soft reset and swap the Pokémon you want a Shiny of. Hatch however many eggs it took and then you've got yourself a free shiny

I saw a video of this working in ORAS. Iunno about XY, though

You can use bugs in gen1 to alter any pokemon's DVs and give them ones that make them shiny when transferred to pokebank. You can also set their nature by changing how much exp they have. The IVs are usually pretty good and you can easily get perfect ones by transferring in entire barches of clones until you get what you want. So if you want a shiny mon from bulbasaur to mew with its hidden ability and no particular egg moves (like articuno) you can will it into existence. It's pretty simple if you're already a gen1 glitch autist, which every cool kid is.

Yeah but that would still fall under cheating.

RNG abuse in later gens to control what you want is fine because the game theoretically can generate the result given enough time/tries.

In Gen 1 though only about 10% of the possible 65565 possible DV combos are never generated for wild Pokémon. So while you can get shinies for stuff like the starionary legends, starters, or Game Corner mons, it's literally impossible for stuff you'd find in the wild, bar fishing.

still no lugia, 1100 resets before I realised I had no shiny charm.

used living dex, got charm, now 222 resets in, still no luck.

on the other hand, I took a break to work on a new living dex a few days back, and found pic related, so I've got that going for me.

Depends on the kind of chaining, that refers to a ton of shit.
Assuming you mean SOS, I prefer it vastly for Pokemon that don't need egg moves. You get one less IV, than MM, but yeah, otherwise you only need a synchronizer. Check the call rate of the pokemon you're doing though, some have a really low rate (e.g. Drampa) and suck to chain. I prefer chaining if I can though.

You need to have a specific secret ID so you have to keep starting a new game, trading something with cute charm over and seeing if it works until it eventually does. I haven't done it myself so I'm not 100% on how it works but there are videos on youtube that will explain it. Depending on your secret ID it could work for males or females but not both so unless you use something else to check your ID it will take a while to get it working.

This is my first time ever shiny hunting, and I wanted one thing clarified about Swap Breeding. Right now I'm saving several 6IV Wimpod I happen to hatch while I look for a shiny. If, when I do find a shiny, it has non optimal IVs (5IV with the lacking one being something other than SpAtk), can I swap the first 6IV Wimpod for another 6IV Wimpod, hoping it'll inherit better IVs, or will it always inherit the same IVs?

It will always inherit the same set of IVs
So let's say you bred a Magikarp and a Ditto and got a shiny that inherited the Magikarp's HP, Def and Speed and inherited the Ditto's Atk and Sp Atk
That means whatever you replace the Magikarp with will pass on its HP, Def and Speed to the shiny offspring

So let's say M = the Magikarp's IV and D = the Ditto's IV
The shiny offspring would be M/D/M/D/21/M
No matter what you swap the Magikarp with, the shiny will always have that spread and therefore always have a 21 in Sp Def

Just got through my first box of Heavy Ball Wimpods, am I even doing this right?
Everstone Japanese Wimpod in a heavy ball, english ditto I caught myself.
Wimpod has an everstone to pass adamant nature, and has 3 egg moves of Aqua Jet, Spikes, and Wide Guard.
No destiny knot or injected ditto because I don't cheat and I'm too pathetic to beat the battle tree for the knot anyway, and my Ditto is near perfect for a special attacker anyway so meh.
Have a gold bottle cap saved for the target.

Well, I've been playing Moon since Day 1 and nothing, and then this happens. I was breeding my new team and the black castle appears, then i went to spread the Pokerus onto my new friends and this is the second encounter.
