The games at least have a broad appeal (particularly if you grew up with the series and have nostalgia for it). But the anime is irredeemable trash.

The anime is supposed to be a retarded promotion tool for children and intentionally has as little effort as humanly possible put into anything but the animation. But the art direction sucks ass this season so it doesn't matter.
SM manga is guaranteed to get super edgy and dark later on down the line and will have a story that's so mature and thought out that it'll tailspin, loop around, and become retarded. Guaranteed fatalities this arc include: Looker's Croagunk, the Tapus, various NPCs killed by Ultra Beasts, Lusamine.
Pick your poison, it doesn't get any better from here.

Each main character will tame a UB of their own in the final throes and form a protag squad to fight Lusamine and Super Nihilego. Sun gets Kartana, Moon gets Celesteela, Lillie gets Lunala, Guzma gets Buzzwole, Plumeria gets Xurkitree, and Gladion is the odd ome out with his Silvaly.

The anime has literally never been good. It's by far worse than any other media in the franchise. Not one manga is as bad. None of the shitty guide books churned out at the height of popularity, none of the toys or plushies, none of the Chinese knock off shirts with the colours all wrong, none of the games, spinoffs, not even the fucking Pokemon Mini "games". NOTHING comes close to as bad as the anime.
