Will probably stay on the 3ds until nintendo drops the switch like they did with the wiiu and releases an actual successor to the 3ds.
This is why they didn't announce anything for the switch earlier, they wanted to see if it would flop or not before making any decisions.

The hardware is barely better than the wii u, can't even run zelda at 1080p which is pathetic
It has shit battery life
It tries to be both a handheld and a home console, and as a result it's mediocre at both and excels at nothing, even nintendo themselves can't decide what to call it
It has literally no games. Its only good launch title isn't even exclusive

It stays on the 3DS for the next two years like it would've anyways then if either A) the Switch picks itself up it'll end up there in 2019, B) Switch doesn't pick itself up and ends up on Nintendo's 3DS successor in either 2019 or 2020, or C) Switch doesn't pick itself up, Nintendo refuses to just make a new handheld, and mainline jumps to smartphones in 2019

IGN's review makes sense. Home consoles and portables have their strengths and weaknesses. The Switch has all the weaknesses of both with the only positive being that it is both.

I still think it can be saved. Think:

The original DS was always the best model of it, though. The original 3DS was until the N3DS too, and still has pros over even it. And the original GBA, while its D-Pad and screen were irredeemably garbage, did have the best form factor of the three models.

Nobody would be buying it for Pokemon, they would be buying it for BOTW.

I'm taking its current Metacritic score with a grain of salt, considering that Ocarina is also considered a masterpiece and that game bored the fuck out of me. Not too interested in the Switch at the moment.

*Holding information in storage* takes almost no energy.
*Processing information* takes very, very, very little energy.
*Illuminating a OLED / LCD screen* takes a fucking big amount of energy.
Look at your cell phone (or stop looking at it, phoneposters) if you were to fully charge it's battery, then leave it on a shelf with the screen off, you may be able to come back to it in two days to it's battery warning flashing red and it being at 1% energy.
Or you can play Angry Birds for 45 minutes with the screen brightness on high for a similar result.
