Why does Gamefreak love this thing so much? It's not even the most popular Kanto starter but they give it a great ability like solar power and two megas before Venusaur and Blastoise.

Charizard was chosen by the fans. It is the most popular Kanto starter by far, and Game Freak responded to the love it gets by throwing its fans a bone.

It's not like Lucario who was chosen to be promoted before they knew if anyone liked it.

It gets as much recognition as Blastoise. And it gets a lot more recognition than 90% of other Pokemon. It's just that Charizard gets more, not that Venusaur gets ignored while the other two gets recognition.
