Physical attackers have access to a wide range of Priority moves, and a lot of utility moves, such as knock off, fake out and sucker punch are physical.
However, Physical attackers are crippled by Intimidate and burns, for which there is no special equivalent.
Also, Swords dance is an extremely common set up move. The special equivalent, Nasty plot, is far more scarcely distributed.
Dragon dance is also great, and for that one, there IS no special equivalent.
Special attackers have no priority outside of Vacuume wave, which has 40BP and Greninja's water shuriken.
Also, the sheer presence of Chancey is a determent to special, as it walls most of them.
However, special attackers have a tendency to have better effective coverage overall, are not crippled by burn or intimidate, and do not make contact with their moves, which tends to keep them healthier in a meta full of rough skin and rocky helmets.
Overall, you need both, or else some defensive pokémon which specializes in one defensive stat and high HP will get you.
