Cutiefly was more insectoid, and had a proboscis.

Ribombee was a pleasant surprise in game. I caught a Cutiefly just to fill my Pokedex but used it on a whim a few times and it quickly became one of my favorite gen 7 Pokemon. Even better when it evolved. Like damn, did not expect to love it.

People are still upset about the missing proboscis? I think scrapping it was for the best imo. Instead of a Cutifly with a humanoid body you got a humanoid with bee fly parts instead. Which makes the design stand out on it's own right.

The proboscis is the most distinctive and interesting part of Cutiefly's design, there was really no reason to get rid of it for a boring smiley mouth. I like Ribombee's design otherwise but that aspect was a disappointment.

I'm inclined to agree because honestly the Bug type has some of the most sterile designs in the entire series. Way too many moths and designs that are just stylistic versions of real-life bugs like Heracross, Yanmega or Scolipede. Now granted these are far from TERRIBLE designs, but variety is the spice of life

I can't see how Ribombee is generic to anybody. I guess it's because it's another Fairy waifu? In terms of Bug designs, it and Pheromosa are huge steps out of the comfort zone most Bugs

wild ribombee are in poni meadows and can be seen with pokefinder
there's also the fact that a fuckton of people used cutiefly in their playthrough and found it to be a beast, especially once it evolved

Confirmed. I never expected to use the thing, but it turned out to be one of my mainstays. Ribombee is a great design, and is far from forgettable to me.

Ledian still feels like a Bug, Ribombee does not have anything that would make me think it was a Bug if not for its name, connection to Cutiefly, and actually having the Bug type

Though if Fairy did not exist as a type I would probably be defending it saying they're just treating literal fairies as bugs for it which works pretty well
