Speed runs aren't an argument senpai. Even if it were, SM is bogged down by a million annoying and unskippable cutscenes. While gen 4 does have cutscenes they aren't as numerous or as long.
Gen 4 is bogged down by an atrocious engine. THAT is why people say that it's slow; it literally runs slowly and poorly. Movement speed is sluggish. Battles take longer. "Saving a lot of data..." occurred if you touched the PC or caught something. It's a chore to get through. That's not to imply that gen 7 also is not a chore to get through, it is, just for different reasons.

It's not about how long the game takes to finish, retard. It's about how slow battles, movement etc. are. SM have a billion cutscenes but they run just fine, it's only slow in certain battles.

Yes, and? The point of the OP is to show how much time non-gameplay (read cutscene) elements take up in S/M relative to a game considered 'slow' by retarded casuals who enjoy being led around on a leash across pretty backdrops.

ANY time more than two pokemon are on screen, start of a battle, switching, Z-moves. The battles were horrible.

Maybe it was, but it wasn't choppy which is the main problem. It was a silky smooth 20fps or whatever nintendo used back then.

OP, you're not wrong, but people don't talk about speed runs, just the general feel of the game when they refer to it being slow. The battles drag out a lot, saving takes more time than ever, interactions are slow, etc. The game itself might be faster to complete than the newer ones, but these at least make it so the time spent in them doesn't feel like a slog. Newer games speed up HP decrease, animations are quicker and the drain of the HP bar begins before they end most of the time. This all makes the battles go by faster, and out of battles, aside from dialogue segments, npc interactions are generally faster. There are problems like the extra animations on flying and pelago that get tiresome quickly, and the framerate drop on certain battles, but overall the game feels faster, and that's what matters in the end, not the objective speed it takes to complete.

Would you rather have a 10 minute game that feels dragged out, or a 1 hour game that has a more proper pacing?

SM are slower for this stuff than Gen 6 were, and there are frame rate issues in many places, but it's nowhere near as tedious as DP.
