There are reasons for this. One being that Pokemon enjoyed its peak nearly 20 years ago whereas MLP's resurgeance since the 80s started about 6-7 years back.
The other is that there were already canon humans (trainers) that people don't mind in other boards, whereas humanized Ponies (canon and fanart) will cause some chairs to be thrown at the mere sight of them. Incidentally, Gijinka are too niche by comparison as there are so many interpretations for one and the point of humanizing the ponies on the fan's end was to justify their fapping to the horses for their personality.
Finally, The Pokemon Company doesn't listen to its fanbase so liberally in the interest of pleasing them. I suppose in some cases this is disappointing but the point I'm making is more than MLP writers sort of jumped the gun on indulging their fanbase in ways that got them in trouble. Pokemon's controversy was over an opportunistic black woman looking to sue, an opportunistic Jew looking to sue so bad he broke canon in the card games and some epileptic Japanese now young adults that let a yellow rat run Scot-free. Not even counting how many times a poorly timed Earthquake has been in the show.
The only thing we have in common with /MLP/ is that we have each have a containment board but /v/ doesn't seem to mind us leaving our cage despite the janitors.
