Fairy is not an overpowered typing.

The good Fairies are good because of their abilities (Magic Guard, Huge Power, Terrains), or their other types.

Fairy on its own a mediocre type.

Holy fucking shit. I don't think Fairy is really worse than Gen 5 Dragon, but you are fucking kidding yourself if you think it's a mediocre type. Offensively it's pretty solid while defensively it's amazing thanks to its weaknesses being mediocre defensive typing while it walls a nice selection of good offensive types including being one of the rare defensive answers to Dark and Dragon at once while also coming with a Bug resist for U-Turn. Let's just be happy the Tapus don't have Earth Power.
