>>32237312I have bad news for you.
>>32237299Pokemon would not be as big if it weren't for its success in the 90s. With the rep Nintendo has now as "that living room box next to my PS4/Xbox One" and children's unhealthy love of mature and gritty HD experiences, there's no way it would be that big if it first came out today.
Because of this success in the 90s, the franchise became as powerful as it is today. But with all those 90s players growing up with smartphones and getting tired of each new design, Game Freak decided to push Gen 1 aggressively again and focus less on new ideas to bring back the support of the 90s players, coupled with the easy to impress children of today, which clearly worked with shit like XY, Pokemon Go, and SM with its Alola forms.
Face it, Gen 1 designs' popularity is all determined by the massive nostalgia that is already there that Game Freak is heavily taking advantage of. My little brother's team in SM mirrors his team from XY, his first game, more than Gen 1. Gen 1's support is just coming from 90s players gassing up new players to get into it. Seriously, who cares about a simple blue turtle with blasters on its shell when you have the cool, cartoony Ninja Frog that's also in Smash Bros?
But since Gen 1's being pushed so much, it's only a matter of time before Game Freak makes new gens without new Pokemon and we become stuck with the same boring roster from the 90s, with occasional redesigns and with only a handful of the most overrated Pokemon from later gens forever.
Note: I still like Blastoise more than Greninja
