She appeared in a lot of specials, yes, but then again they had Tracey appear in 7 specials. You think Tracey is more popular than Misty? They also gave minor characters like Richie and Casey 3 specials each. You think they were so popular enough to get specials over the later rivals like Paul, Drew/Harley, Zoey, etc. who didn't get any specials after they left?
Likewise, everything else you mention is just because the writers reference the first season. She and Brock appeared in Charizard's flashback eps for the obvious reason she was in his episodes, it had nothing to do with Misty herself. By this logic though May also has been referenced in every saga prior to XY. She cameo'd in DP, appeared in BW's ending theme and last episode in the flashbacks, etc.
You're acting like Misty got this better treatment than May, she didn't.
