Not really, it's hard to decided a canon for gen 7, Decidueye doesn't suit sun.
Not to mention they made Kukui's Primarina always female.
To me anything works here and nothing is not canon.

Well. Some ARE canon, but some just aren't canon protagonists!

For example, Lyra and Dawn ARE canon, but they are NOT the canon protags.

The Non-Canon girls include: Rosa, Hilda, Chicken, Kris, and Leaf. They do not exist in the game's canon. Except MAYBE Hilda. She was planned to be in the PWC....but since it's not official... it's not canon.

Because it's the mascot Pokemon of the series, owned by the mascot trainer of the series. Red's team means nothing. He had no canon team in his games, it could consist of anything. If you're going to be that particular about Red's team, explain why his Pikachu knows Volt Tackle.

The concept of canon applies to products. The meta is not a product.

Vgc is a set of rules, not a meta. It has a meta but isnt one as of itself.

Smogon isnt a product, its a community that defined a set of rules which arent either a product. So it cant be canon or not canon, this doesnt apply to them. Said rules are, as you say, unnofficial, which is an entirely different concept than canon.
