The new Pokémon are overdesigned when they have tons of useless spikes, and stripes that the Gen 1 ones (aka, THE Pokémon) didn't have.
Eg: Charizard against Garchomp, Dragonite against Haxorus (you even had the courage of compairing them!).
The new Pokémon are over-simplified when they have few to none details on things that could make their design look believable anathomically (an actual skeletal system, believable shapes, fur, feathers, claws, etc)
Eg: Growlithe messy and believable fur against Lillipup creamy like fur(?) that looks like a cartoony cake squashed on its face, or Vulpix detailed paws against Rockruff's round-blobby ones.
Also, since they basically copypasted Vulpix original pose for Alolan Vulpix, look at its mouth: Gen 1 version it's believable, having also a jaw, Gen 7 one has it drawn inside his face.
Please, learn the differences before shitposting against Gen 1 (aka Pokémon)!
