All the starters are fair designs but I chose Rowlet as I have been into birdwatching since I was a kid and it looks kind of like a stylized screech owl with a barn owl facial disc. I don't feel the need to jump in and start telling people they're shitheads for liking other ones though (e.g. I've hated cats since I was a kid because they eat birds, same for seals because dumb kid version of me associated all seals with penguin-eating leopard seals, but it's good for other people if they like them, none of my business), and also ignore most bait against it.
But people have always been super defensive with the starters of any gen, and I've wondered if there was ever a reason beyond "it's your first one."
