Gen 2. I get more nostalgia for it than I do for gen 1 oddly enough. I like it for the features it added, but also those it didn't add (natures/IVs/EVs etc.) which have taken a lot of the fun out of the series for me. I still play through Crystal version from time to time and I find it a far more nostalgic and enjoyable experience than playing HGSS. The gen 2 music is my favorite of the series, and my favorite legendary (Ho-Oh) and non-legendary (Politoed) were from this gen. Despite only adding 100 new monsters there was more continuity in design with gen 1 and it felt much more like an expansion for gen 1 than a clean-break with the past like gens 3-on (what I term "nu-Pokémon" or "neo-Pokémon").

Gen 5. What is there to say. It's the best of the "modern" gens by far. The level bump of trainers after E4 was insane in BW, and team plasma are the best villains of the series barring the gamecube RPGs with cipher/team snagem. It represents the most difficult game of a largely casualized series. And while I found the story kind of meh overall (especially in B2W2), at least it wasn't a pseudo harem tale like gen 7.

Gen 1. Replaying gen 1 is like rewatching the original starwars trilogy for me. It's simple adventure that hits a lot of high points and sets up the whole series quite nicely (whether or not later installments can live up to its hype). While the original RBY is now totally outclassed by FRLG, I still prefer the grotesque and ferocious spritework of the originals, and the glitches make for something of a postgame by themselves.

Gen 3. I will be honest, I didn't like Hoenn as a region. It's unfortunate that the whole is less than the sum of its parts, because some individual areas in hoenn were among the coolest in the series, like Mt Chimney, Fortree town, and the desert. The issue really boils down to "too much water". The designs by and large do not appeal to me (although I liked the starters better than gen 2's).

Oh boy, where to begin? I guess I'll start with what I liked about it. Sinnoh was atmospheric and had great music and routes (not counting Mt. Coronet because I hated it). But the legendaries were horrible, and what's worse is they added so many. This was the generation where legends "jumped the shark" and became kind of a joke. How do they improve on a legend that is literally God? The rival, evil team and general plot was forgettable. The designs were clearly starting to decline in quality here. The engine was slow garbage.

Gen 7. Cuscenes everywhere. Very few new pokemon, most of which have bland forgettable designs. Region is pretty but feels claustrophobic and most routes are very linear. Waifus. No new megas. Z moves are cool I guess. Feels like it missed a lot of opportunities for the 20th anniversary game, and was highly mediocre. I liked the new formes and think gamefreak should make more, while also ensuring each region has enough entirely new Pokemon so it feels unique. On each route I found myself thinking "hey I already cought this guy in 3 other games". I liked the new national dex systems.

Gen 6.
Trash designs. Trash region. Trash characters. Trash villains. Trash remakes. I didn't personally like megas, and am kinda sad we aren't getting more cross-gen evos because of them. Rollerblades are annoying. Daycare path leads into a cave. PSS notifications are annoying. Cluttered touchscreen. O Powers were cool. Amie should have been more than a glorified petting zoo. Highly mediocre games on the whole, but not as bad as they are often made out to be.

Well is your opinion and all, but, shit taste after all.
Alola gave us more memorable mons at the same level of Kanto.
Pyukumuku, Mimykiu, Bewear, Golisopod, all the Ultrabeasts, even i found the cute legendary of this generation Marshadow, more interesting than others like Victini.

Objectively speaking, 4 is garbage from a gameplay standpoint, easily the worst generation in nearly every respect.

6 had better quality of life than 7, but the generation isn't over yet, and that could change.

2 was a big improvement over 1 in many ways but the terrible new pokemon and region layout made it a chore to play by comparison. Sadly, the remakes only made the flaws of Gold and Silver worse.

Only games I don't like are X & Y. I really just can't stand them, and I really enjoy the rest. Alola was at least fun and interesting the first time through even if subsequent play throughs are a little hampered by how cutscene heavy it is. For me Gen 6 wasn't interesing the first time, and it wasn't on other runs either. The only 2 places that stick out in my memory about X and Y are the Pokeball factory, which was an interesting concept, and that Cliff where you can see the lower route below you. Otherwise I just remember feeling annoyed by Dancing Fat Man and Coconut Head.

It wasn't too much water as much as about a quarter of the region being the same shitty body of with having the exact same shitty encounters (mostly Tentacool and Wingull line in the 15-35 range). It gets really annoying when you're past the last gym and you're still encountering level 21 Tentacool every other tile.

Note my ranking of generations only goes by aspects such as the fluidity of control, graphical style, and core battle mechanics because those are what are truly define the generations thanks to remakes and the heavily disparity in the quality of the games themselves in a single generation

Bitch, past the last gym in Gen I you're clear on to Victory Road. In Gen II you only have to cross a puddle to reach Kanto and you're now encountering a few new wild pokes at a higher level than you've seen before in the game and then you're at Victory Road. In Gen IV you do have to surf, but the lowest-leveled Tentacool you face are in their 40s. Do I need to go on?

Like what? I don't recall seeing anything beyond Tentacool, Tentacruel, and maybe Goldeen from just surfing.

Honestly, if it weren't for Gen 7's massive lack of nearly all the features that salvaged Gen 6, it would've probably been one of my favorite gens. It's a shame.

Grinding is when you have to fucking travel in circles over and over and over again beating up on something 10 levels below you to level up. Fighting a few trainers and wild encounters at a few levels below you is not grinding. By the way, the fact that all the trainers are water trainers in the Hoenn water routes is another annoyance.

Gen 3, specifically Emerald and ORAS, is the best because of all the exploration. Bonus points for Secret Bases, superb OST, good designs, and player freedom.

Gen 6 is just mediocre overall but at least feels like a game

Gen 2 isn't exactly bad, but the ridiculous level spikes and shit Pokemon designs hold it back.

Gen 1 is that high because of FRLG

Gen 5 is that high mostly because of B2W2. BW are mediocre

Gen 4 is that high because of Platinum.

What? Gen 3 has arguably the best leveling of any of the Pokemon games. If you battle most of the trainers and collect a good amount of Rare Candies, your team should be the same level, if not, even higher leveled than Steven/Wallace.

In Johto you have to Surf to Cinnabar still which, yet again, contains Tentacool and Tentacruel.

You must be a real special retard to need wild Pokemon battles at that point. Hoenn has so many trainer battles that you have absolutely no need to grind at all once you pass Brawly's gym (and you don't even need to challenge that gym at first too).

How shit do you have to be to need to grind on wild Pokemon at that stage of the game?

Who cares if it's postgame content or not? You're still going over it, and it's more than 5 tiles because you need to Surf to Cinnabar and then Blaine's gym in HGSS. The point still stands.

X and Y would be definitive if we actually got a third version, until then it's stuck in limbo.

Gen 4 will probably jump up higher if ORAS is any indication

Gen 2 will forever be terrible.

I didn't find BW to be anything special, but I loved BW2, which alone is keeping Gen 5 at top. There was a lot of content, and I actually found that content fun, unlike what most of others have to offer where I give zero shits about most of it.
There was a lot I liked about SM, and it had overall the best main game for me. There were a few issues I had though, which is why it is below Gen 5. Looking forward to next Gen 7 game.
Gen 6 so high might be a bit weird, but the things I liked in Gen 6 outweigh the few things I didn't like about it.
Gen 4 had a lot of content, but I didn't care for most of it. Battle Frontier was okay, nothing special.
Gen 3 Battle Frontier was better, but lack of Physical/Special slip make it borderline unplayable.
I enjoyed Gen 2 more when it came out, but if I were to revisit them, I would pick Gen 1. It had overall better game design, and I find it more fun.
