Animals survive giving birth all the time, so what is going on with that? Surely they would mate as soon as they can, and if they mated when they first got the urge, then according to us, it would not be good, yet they somehow still survive. Even if you look at ancient history, there was no such thing as birth control, people just had sex whenever they wanted. How did they survive? Sure enough, there is still a risk they could not survive being pregnant, but as far as I know, that didn't happen often. This only speaking from a purely physical standpoint, though. Mentally, of course we're idiots who let their progeny stay dependent for too long. Heck, I'd even say most adults are ill equipped to truly be able to rear a child.
In a way, we are right, but we are also wrong. It is only our own fault that we are so inept at raising our children, though. If nature had it's way, this would not be a problem.
