Gyarados ingame doesn't need a Flying move anyway. DD+Ice Fang already wrecks Grass types and gets even better once you find the Ice Z-Crystal

To my knowledge, every time gyarados appears it's in a similar pose to the OP image, not articulated horizontally. I think that gyarados can only twist it's parts as is displayed in the OP image, so it can't actually coil. The rest of them should have it though
