>>32399941It's because one of the appeals to Pokemon's marketing is that it's for everyone, much like Kirby is. Casuals can play with a simple RPS battling system and an animal buddy of their choice. Competitionist get hundreds of Pokemon to catch and unlockables. And competitive players have VGC, Battlespot, and fan made metas to play.
Such subtle design choices are why Pokemon was the one to survive the monster collection craze of the 90s with flying colors and why Digimon games (which do pretty much the opposite of what Pokemon does for success) that I could find were either in the shovelware section or 100% new.
If Digimon got a reboot where they made the monsters more natural, had a more fluid combat system, and tried to appeal to every demographic, it could be the 90s Sonic to Pokemon.
