In the Klink line, the endgame is becoming an epicyclic gear train. However, the sun-planet gear dynamic isn't apparent with Klink until it evolves into Klang. By the time it's a Klingklang, the theme is fully embraced by having apparent sun, planet and ring gears.
Appearance wise, sure, Klang doesn't stand out much. But from a thematic standpoint, it's as vital to the line as Combusken or Braixen are to their lines.
