Who had the worst idea between Masuda or Sakurai?

Masuda didn't added the Battle Frontier on ORAS due to "a low quantity of people would appreciate its inclusion and people spent less time with a same game".

Sakurai didn't added a story mode in SSB 4 due to "people can see the story mode's cutscreens in YouTube without buy the game".

So, ...who lost, erm... lost /vp/?

Sakurai had the worst for sure! Masuda eliminated an extra content and not something that is the main part of the game itself and his reasons can even be considered legit under few conditions. On the other hand removing the story mode for such a stupid and futile motivation makes the game a lot worse.

I dunno. Sakurai doesn't have a point in the matter that there was no reason to exclude a story, BUT honestly, what kind of story could we have? Brawl was already the world's biggest clusterfuck, although it was still entertaining to play, Great Maze notwithstanding. I'm convinced there IS no way to make a good story from this. In that sense, Sakurai has a much better point than Masuda, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't his reason.

Masuda was actually correct, even if his reasoning is a bit ridiculous. What he said about phones is especially true in Japan, where phones are just used more.

It is a fact that third versions, the ones with Battle Frontier, got a lot less sales, and even among those that did buy them, not many actually played through all the facilities. I know many who end the game with the credits. I was one of those people in the beginning. The facilities had no end to them, so playing them wasn't fun for me. Because it felt pointless. There were no goals. This is why Delta Episode was played by so many, and loved by most of them. It had story, it was short, it had an end.

Brawl's storymode was a fucking mess that tried to use fighting game physics for a platformer. People only liked it for the cutscenes. Sakurai was right to just cut out the middle man and make a bunch of cutscene-esque trailers instead.

Here's the thing. Masuda says things like this, but yet, Bullshit Tower exists in every game. If he's referring to the matter that there's more than one facility, that does not matter, they're all junk you're going to be spending forever on. I suppose you have a point when it's forever times 5, but it's a weak argument at best. You still need to be competitive. You still endlessly fight the RNG. There is no difference. The only real reason he did it is that he didn't feel like doing it. Sakurai may be stubborn, but he isn't lazy. Masuda is.

Clearly Masuda and Ohmori.
Lacking an adventure mode in Smash doesn't affect the longevity of the game as much as lacking postgame facilities and general difficulty.
On top of that Smash 4 had a lot of content to make up for it. While ORAS still had the base content from the originals to make up for it as well as some stuff from XY and BW SM had fuck all.

No one plays Smash for the fucking story. And he had reason to be buttmad at his fans.

While the Battle Frontier was the best piece of post content Pokemon has ever seen. And it was scrapped for virtually no reason on a whim.

Everyone else in this thread is either a retard or blinded by their hate for Sakurai Since we spent so many years hating the man

I don't. I just play to whatever end there is, usually the super boss. The only exception I made was for OR/AS in which I made do with beating the Champion round 2. I'm NOT doing Bullshit Tower to face stronger trainers. I refuse.

Those items are there AFTER the end of the game. Quite literally, only competitive players give a shit. The vast majority of people play Pokemon for the adventure. The battle facilities are irrelevant part of that. You don't move, you don't level up, you aren't catching anything. There's no progress. Almost all of Pokemon fans don't buy the games for the retarded faculties. The series wasn't about that when it started, and it will never be about them.

At least everyone played the Subspace Emissary. That can't be said about any facility. Whether you accept it or not, Subspace Emissary and its story was liked and missed by many more than every facility in Pokemon combined.

Next to no one played it let alone all the way through especially since Smash has always had other methods of unlocking characters. Hell it was met with a large amount of negativity until we found out there wouldn't be an adventure mode in 4.

There's a reason why more people were angered at both the changed frontier in gen 4 and the lack of it in ORAS. They added necessary content and variety to the game.

There's only one thing I hate about how they've done things now, and that is that the Mega Stones are walled behind this this. True, I could circumvent it. Turn animations and set text speed to fast and either bum rush Bullshit Tower or Battle Royal for most of them, but then, the rest are blocked by you have to beat Red or something like that, which means you have to actually be good. THEN, not all the stones are there. Some are only given out as events or by participating in VGC events. WHAT IS THE DAMN PURPOSE, YOU CAN'T USE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved the megas. I wanted to use the megas. No, Gamefreak decided I can't unless I get into competitive, and there, I can't use them. Otherwise, you're giving me Megas just to use on Bullshit Tower, which you already had to be good at to even get them. Point lost. My conclusion is they don't want you to use Megas. They're even punishing you for wanting to use Megas. They even bash you for liking Megas to start with.

I mean, it would be a bigger problem if there were new Megas. As it is, you've already used them and can use them in Gen 6. There's no change.
That said, it was wrong of them to not make the stones available until the end of the game, after which most have no reason to use a Mega. They wanted to let Z-moves shine, and that worked, but Megas suffered as a result. Hopefully, it'll be fixed next game.

Hell, why even create a real "story mode" at all in smash 4? Just make an upgraded version of the adventure mode from melee! Nintendo has a lot more worlds they create stages out of now like Pikmin and Xenoblade while also having updates to older worlds like replacing the underground maze with the spirit world from Skyward sword. There doesn't even have to be any cutscenes in between stages.

If anything that's a reason not to waste time with it.
Meanwhile removing the difficulty and extra content in pokemon hurts just about every player from casual to hardcore one, because there's no variety. Two, because it lowers multiplayer content.

Sakurai's reason is bullshit and probably isn't the real reason for the cut. Masuda's reason has some basis but the cut content is far more significant in terms of impact on the game. Most people can go without adventure mode in Smash, but cutting nearly the whole post game in Pokemon is awful.

At least Sakurai knows his fanbase well enough to know that people watch the cutscenes on Youtube instead of playing the shitty story mode from Brawl.
Masuda has no excuse to why the sole thing many fans wanted to return for the remakes was the Battle Frontier. Not only that, but contests returned despite no one playing them outside of competition.

Isn't Smash Bros. over anyway? I heard that Sakurai hated working on the games, that the demands that everyone put on him stressed him out and he didn't want anymore of it.
