Nah. The games are canon. Generations is based on those events, but not everything in Generations is canon.
You don't release the electrode powering the Lake of Rage generator for example, you make them faint or catch them.
Generations also omits Lucas, Dawn, Nate and Rosa from events they should have been present for.
It's more like an OVA loosely based on the games than a direct adaptation, like the Special Manga.

No, anon. You misunderstood. The events shown in Generation aren't canon to the games. But the things shown are.

For example, Hilbert doesn't appear in BW2. But Hilbert and Zekrom are things from the games. The Ghost in the Chateau doesn't kill Cheryl. But the ghost and Cheryl are things in the games.

They aren't making concepts up. They're just taking things from the games, and putting them in slightly different situations.

Putting them in situations that weren't present in the original or changing events means it's not canon. It's like how anime filler uses concepts, characters and locations found in the source material but said events never take place in the overarching plot.
